Substitution Options
All substitution options are a 1:1 substitution unless noted otherwise.
Frozen Black Raspberries: Any frozen berry will work. If using fresh fruit or fresh berries, such as fresh blackberries or fresh raspberries just add ½ cup of ice to the smoothie. Strawberries also work as a great way to make strawberry lemonade!
Fresh Lemon Juice: Lime juice, orange juice, or additional ½ teaspoon lemon zest will work.
Lemon Zest: Lime zest or orange zest can be used, or an 1 additional tablespoon of lemon juice
Milk: Any milk can be used. We love Fairlife and Flax Omega + Protein! We also love coconut milk and almond milk.
Vanilla Protein Powder: Your favorite vanilla protein powder can be used.
Cool Whip: CocoWhip can be used for a vegan option. Greek yogurt or vanilla ice cream could be used.
Additions: Some additional items you can add to this delicious smoothie include maple syrup or other simple syrup, agave nectar, chia seeds for a nutritional boost, ice cubes, vanilla yogurt, ripe bananas, and fresh mint.
Fun Fact!
Cool Whip was introduced to the world in 1965 by General Mills. It offered an alternative to whipped cream with less calories, less sugar, and that did not require whipping. Did you know it can be used to shine shoes, to ease a sunburn, as shaving cream, and as a deep conditioner for your hair! (Source)
