How to make Gyro Salad:
- Make Chicken! Cook the chicken as desired or use rotisserie. We used chicken fillets and cooked at 375 for 20 minutes. We let the chicken marinate in tzatziki sauce while the oven preheated too! After cooking we shred the chicken into bite-sized pieces.
- Make the dressing! Mix tzatziki sauce, oil, vinegar in a small bowl.
- Dice the veggies! Dice the tomatoes, cucumbers, and onion.
- Combine! Add the diced veggies to a large bowl with the mixed greens, chicken, and feta. Pour the dressing on top and gently mix to completely coat.
- Enjoy!

Substitution Options
All substitution options are a 1:1 substitution unless noted otherwise.
Shredded Chicken: Lamb is our favorite substitute for chicken to get that gyro flavor!
Mixed Greens: Romaine lettuce, spinach, or your other favorite leafy greens can all be substituted.
Tomato: Sun dried tomatoes are a good alternate to fresh tomatoes.
English Cucumber: Any type of cucumber can be used!
Red Onion: You can try white or yellow onion if you don't have a red onion.
Tzatziki Sauce: You can make homemade tzatziki sauce as opposed to buying it at the store by following our recipe here: Blender Tzatziki Sauce
Olive Oil: We like avocado oil as a substitute for olive oil. You can buy great avocado oil here!
Red Wine Vinegar: Sorry, no substitute for this.
Feta Cheese: We like to use mozzarella or goat cheese when we don't have feta cheese around.
Fun Fact!
Gyro’s are thought to have gotten their start back in ancient times. The word Gyro comes from the Greek word meaning “turning”. In the context of food, Gyro refers to a meat cooked on a spit (a slowly rotating rotisserie, hence the “turning”!) and wrapped in pita bread with tomatoes, onions and tzatziki sauce. (Source)
