make it your own
The beauty of this recipe is how easily you can customize the thickness. While Greek yogurt provides a naturally thick and creamy base, you can simply add a little more milk, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your perfect consistency for dipping, drizzling, or spreading.
ingredient notes & substitutions
All substitutions are a 1:1 substitute unless otherwise noted. See the recipe card for quantities.
- Greek yogurt (plain, non-fat): We opt for non-fat to keep things light, but full-fat would also work for an even richer dressing.
- Ranch seasoning: This is where all that classic ranch flavor comes from! We recommend a seasoning with quality ingredients such as Spicewalla or Simply Organic.
- Skim milk: A little bit of milk helps thin out the dressing to your desired consistency. You can use any milk you prefer, or even water, to adjust the thickness.

high protein ingredient spotlight: Greek yogurt
Greek yogurt is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to protein! Just one cup of plain, non-fat Greek yogurt can pack over 20 grams of protein. It's also a fantastic source of calcium and probiotics, which are great for gut health. Its thick, creamy texture makes it an excellent base for desserts like our strawberry icebox cake or in breakfast recipes like our Greek yogurt pancakes!

expert tips
- Seasoning quality matters: The taste of your ranch dressing will largely depend on the quality of your ranch seasoning. Some store-bought options can be quite salty, so taste as you go.
- Adjusting consistency: Start with the recommended milk amount, then gradually add more if you prefer a thinner dressing. Do this 1 tablespoon at a time, while mixing and tasting in between additions. It's easier to thin it out than to thicken it!

troubleshooting & testing notes
Ranch seasoning clumps
Ranch seasoning tends to clump up when it gets older. If this happens, be sure to completely break them up (using the back of a fork) before mixing so your dressing doesn't end up with clumps!
Fresh vs. dry seasoning
We tried making this ranch with fresh herbs. After lots of chopping and testing different quantities, we realized that just getting a high-quality dry seasoning was so much easier and tasted better!
how to store it
This is meant to be stored and enjoyed! It will last in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks. We put ours in a mason jar with a lid or a small Tupperware container. Adjust how much you make so you have the right amount to last for a couple of weeks, and then make another batch when you're out!
how I serve this ranch
- The classic veggies, such as carrots, cucumbers, broccoli, and celery, are perfect for dipping in this ranch! We also love it on top of roasted veggies - like to our protein brussels sprouts recipe.
- Drizzle it on top of your favorite salad for a creamy protein dressing.
- Dollop or dip it with savory dishes such as grilled chicken, pizza, roasted potatoes, or our smash tacos!
