If you’re a peanut butter lover and looking for a creamy, cozy drink then this peanut butter latte recipe is for you! This recipe shows you how to make tasty peanut butter coffee in two different ways – and both are super simple!

When you combine creamy peanut butter, frothed milk, and coffee you get a drink so delicious it’s like a liquid peanut butter cup. This drink can be enjoyed any time of day and is cozy when served hot or it can be enjoyed as an iced peanut butter latte.

This recipe uses two different methods to make the same yummy peanut butter latte. The first method mixes the ingredients in a blender, while the second method cooks them on a stove. Either way you make it you’re going to love this drink!

Ingredients and Substitutions

Peanut butter, milk, coffee, and honey.

All substitutions are a 1:1 substitute unless otherwise noted

Peanut Butter: This is the key ingredient and we use creamy peanut butter or peanut butter powder. We actually prefer using peanut butter powder because it mixes with milk better than peanut butter does. We understand not everyone has powder, which is why we make this recipe two ways! If you want to try peanut butter powder you can get it here!

Substitutions: We use creamy, but any kind of peanut butter can be used. Peanut butter syrup can also be used. If you’re going for a different flavor you can try a different nut butter such as almond butter of cashew butter.

 

Milk: We use whole milk for this recipe. Whole milk contains about 3.5% fat, which is enough to make this latte nice and creamy!

Substitutions: Feel free to use your milk of choice for this recipe. We use cow’s milk, but plant-based milk works just as well. In particular, oat milk and almond milk are both great substitutes for whole milk.

 

Coffee or Espresso: We use one shot of espresso for this recipe. Espresso is much more concentrated than coffee, so you need less espresso than coffee to get the same flavors and caffeine.

Substitutions: Your coffee of choice can be used as a substitute for espresso. We recommend 1/2 cup of coffee to substitute one espresso shot. Cold brew coffee can also be used!

 

Honey: Honey adds a little extra sweetness to this drink. Plus, honey is a natural sugar!

Substitutions: Maple syrup, white sugar, cane sugar, agave, or any other sweetener of your choice can all be used.

 

Add Ins: Okay this recipe is great as it is, but there are a few things you can add to amp up the flavor.

Salt: When using peanut butter powder, we add a pinch of salt to the drink in order to mimic peanut butter a bit more.

Chocolate: If you’re a peanut butter addict and want to basically drink a liquid peanut butter cup, try adding a teaspoon of cocoa powder. This will transform this drink into a chocolate peanut butter latte!

Ice: If you prefer iced lattes, just top your glass with one cup of ice at the end! NOTE: If you’re using peanut butter powder an iced drink should be fine. However, if you’re using peanut butter, it will start to turn sludgy as the peanut butter cools down and becomes hard again. We do not recommend making an iced latte if you use regular peanut butter.

 

How to Make this – Step by Step

Step one:

Make your one shot of espresso using your desired method. You can also use one-half cup of hot coffee or cold brew coffee if you don’t have an espresso machine. Pour espresso or coffee into your mug of choice and set it aside.

 

Step two:

Make your peanut butter cream using one of two methods:

Method One:

Add milk, peanut butter powder, and honey to a blender and blend until well combined. Then, heat in the microwave for 45 seconds.

Method Two:

Add milk, creamy peanut butter, and honey to a small saucepan. Heat on stove over low heat for 5 minutes and whisk often.

 

Step three:

Optional: Froth peanut butter cream if you have a milk frother! Then, pour milk mixture into your mug with coffee and enjoy!

Joy Tip!

Peanut butter needs to be heated thoroughly in order to become liquid. If you’re using peanut butter instead of peanut butter powder, be sure to heat it well and drink it hot! If the peanut butter starts to cool it will start to solidify and become thick again.

What is served with a peanut butter latte?

If you have a peanut butter addiction we recommend pairing some peanut butter toast with your latte. However, something lighter may be preferred to balance out the nutty flavor of the latte. Fresh fruit, a poppy seed muffin, or toast with jelly are all great pairings!

 

How does peanut butter react with milk?

We find that peanut butter will blend with milk when both are heated. If peanut butter and milk are cold they will have a more difficult time blending. This is because the oils in peanut butter are more solid at cooler temperatures. At higher temperatures, the oil in peanut butter becomes liquid and will mix well with milk!

Fridge: This drink can be stored for a few days in the fridge. If you want a hot latte, simply microwave for one minute and give it a good stir. If you want an iced latte, just top off with some ice when you take it out of the fridge and enjoy!

Freezer: We don’t recommend freezing this drink because it will separate when kept at such cold temperatures.

Let’s learn about peanuts! Despite their name, did you know peanuts aren’t really nuts? They’re legumes! Nuts grow on trees and peanuts do not grow on trees, they actually grow underground.
