- ⅔ cup hazelnut spread
- 1 cup 2% low fat cottage cheese mix in the whey or use 6 hard boiled eggs for dairy free
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoon milk of choice
- 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Storage: You can store protein mousse in the fridge for up to 4 days, either in a jar with a lid or in an air-tight container.
What can I use instead of hazelnut spread?
Cocoa powder is a great alternative to use for this recipe. You can swap the Nutella for 3 tablespoon cocoa powder and 5 tablespoon maple syrup, but the texture is much more runny and less mousse-like. If doing this, I recommend adding ½ of an avocado, which helps to thicken it and doesn’t add any avocado flavor.
Can you freeze mousse?
Yes, but it doesn't thaw that well. It actually makes decent frozen ice cream bars. Cottage cheese still has a pretty high moisture content, so it becomes a bit icy; I'd recommend adding the avocado if freezing, similar to our protein fudgesicles.
How do I thicken my mousse?
If your protein mousse is too runny, blend in more cottage cheese until you reach your desired thickness. You might have to do this if your Nutella is very runny.
