Reove from the heat and strain the syrup if desired.
Helpful Tips
- Strain the mixture if desired but if you use a microplane to grate the ginger, I don’t find it necessary. If you plan to strain, you can just use a chunk of ginger and simmer twice as long to infuse the flavor.
- Peel the ginger using the back of a spoon or simply grating the outside to remove the skin. You can also just use ginger that’s already minced or grated (available in the produce section).
- Double or triple the recipe to make enough for a party or for your whole family.
Common Questions
Can I use ginger juice?
Yes, you can use ginger juice in place of half of the water the recipe calls for.
How should I strain this syrup?
The best way to strain it is through a fine mesh sieve or cocktail strainer.
Is this good for coughs?
According to the Mayo Clinic, there is some evidence that both honey and ginger may reduce coughing. I like to think it helps and at a minimum, it can’t hurt!
